We spent last night in Bucksport. Did about 37 miles yesterday. Had a great Chinese dinner, real reasonable. Bottle of wine $10....so I had to get me one of those. Had Chineese for breakfast in addition to the Dunkin Doughnuts.
This blog is for two days as we did not have phone connection for the internet on Sat night.
So on we go, here is a new cable stayed bridge over the Penobscot River. The right tower is an observation deck open to the public...no we didn't stop, but tempting...
Just to the north of the bridge is Fort Knox, and no, not the one with all the gold. I was built in the mid 1800's out of granite.
And of course more bridge pictures, but from a different angle ( in case you didn't notice ;>)
General New England/Maine pics from the bridge.
Looked like mini cherries, but alas and forelorn, nor food taster among the group
Made it to Ireland... of sorts, this is the pedestrian bridge leading to Belfast
As we came doen the hill into Lincolnville, we caught a picture of the ferry leaving. My cousin Jim told us the ferry goes out to an island with lots of famous people and big luxurious homes.
So the forecast for Saturday night was thunder showers. We opted for a hotel, which turned out to be a cottage. Here I am in front of out cottage in Camden with my cousin Jim, who lives in town.
We walked around town and settled on a restaurant with an outside deck seating. Tough duty as it were. The thunder storm was predicted at 3:00, we had completed our 35 miles by 2:30 so we felt good about it. By 5:30 there was no storm, so so much for predictions......
Then it started to rain slightly, so we went into the bar area to chat, and before we knew it it was monsoon outside. you couldn't see across the small harbor due to the rain. Thunder and lightening tooo.
Pre-rain confidence....
During a lull in the rain we went to the truck and Jim drove us back to the cottage. Then it all broke loose. At the restaurant the thunder was about 7 to 10 seconds away. When we got to the cottage, the thunder was happening at the same time as the lightening. We had 5 strikes at once and Jim jumped across the room....moved pretty good for an old man.....
The next morning calm, we walked down onto the beach and Barb did her Tai Chi and I did my warmups and stretches.
Barb was excited as she got to wear her psychedelic paints. The lady at the hotel complimented her on her colors....I told her it was a rash, but we didn't think it was contagious.
Breakfast consisted of home made (fresh right out of the oven) rolls and popups, with home made jams (at least they looked home made)
It wouldn't be a trip if I wasn't out identifying wild life for my friend Wayne....... Belted Galloways I think.
Back to Barbs pants..... she didn't get to wear them on the ride. it was over 80 when we started, humid. it has been in the low 90's or close to it since the trip started. We are enjoying the heat and the humidity isn't too bad, just seems like we always just got out of the shower, but on bikes not too uncomfortable.
I had broke my sun glasses but didn't notice that until this morning....now these weren't just any sunglasses, They had cheaters in them. $9 specials from Grainger.....so how am I going to replace. We went into an outfitter store in Camden and they didn't have cheaters and Barb was also looking for electrolyte chews. so the guy told us to go to their Big Store in Rockport down the way. This store was REALLY BIG!!!!! Even had a separate bike entrance and was two story. This big ball is innertubes, so it reduces the stress of not finding the largest ball of twine as we crossed the county driving out.
I had to get Barb outta there as she was looking at kayaks to put on the trailer...
And Yes, by the way, did find sunglasses with cheaters. the cheaters were even clear for better ease in reading phones, maps etc.
The last fall of the river as it flows into Damariscotta
We haven't seen any moose but lots of statues. This is probably the worst of them, but I thought I should take a picture before we ran out of mooses. us it has the benefit of having Barb in the pic.
And another bridge, this one leading into Wiscasset
An adventure course. Our niece Katy works on these, so it necessitates a pic
We made it to our campground and hot showers!!!!!!! Buenas Noches
